Amazon Business commissioned a study produced by 451 Research to measure the return on investment (ROI) and value of a Prime Business membership for customers. The Technology Impact on Business Report makes the case for organizations to add a Prime Business plan to their Amazon Business account, unlocking tools and features that reduce procurement costs and save time across teams.
The report combines in-depth interviews with customers and a supplementary survey of more than 300 members worldwide. 451 Research found that the composite organization recognized a five-year net present value of $973,445 and a membership payback period of fewer than four months. The composite organization also realized a three-year discounted return on investment (ROI) of 416%, with the biggest gains coming from better spend governance, supplier reduction, and new opportunities created by freed-up cash flow.
According to the research, the procurement savings and benefits of adding a Prime Business membership are especially pronounced when its exclusive features and tools, such as Spend Visibility and members-only Guided Buying policies, are actively deployed.
"Procurement leaders are making real investment decisions, and they deserve more than a membership program's own account of its value," said Nicolas Easton, worldwide head of Prime Business. “That’s why we commissioned 451 Research to conduct this report. An independent view of how valuable customers find their membership gives us an objective, outside read on our strengths and our biggest opportunity areas. Even better, it showed us where that value compounds over time. That kind of outside perspective is what sharpens what we deliver for our members."
The research underscored additional value signals for large enterprise-level customers, who reported a 13% average reduction in unplanned and ad hoc spend after adding Prime Business to their account when surveyed, a direct way to reduce rogue spend. Further, 93% said data availability and visibility into organizational spend had improved with their membership, helping teams catch potential spending problems before they escalate. Taken a step further, 64% of surveyed customers who had been Prime Business members for more than two years said Spend Visibility is one of the most valuable exclusive features.
One of the clearest indications of impact came from efficiencies gained. Survey respondents reported 12-14% time savings for core procurement and broader organizational activities, and more than 20% departmental productivity gains across key groups like procurement and finance.
The research also details specific customer experiences that showcase how organizations find value from their membership.
In the case of a global food and beverage manufacturer, a migration from a legacy procurement system uncovered a large portion of indirect spend already taking place on Amazon through personal accounts and corporate P-cards. Among the tools available to them as an Amazon Business customer with Prime Business, exclusive Spend Visibility dashboards positioned the customer to identify and reconcile a sizable portion of spend that had previously gone to rogue purchases outside the official catalog.
Another customer, a nonprofit operating across hundreds of locations, needed to navigate a more complex purchasing process. Adopting Prime Business allowed the organization to set policies and gain insight into its spending with diverse and local suppliers, which it cited as a “great feature” that helped meet organizational goals for community support.
451 Research presented the in-depth findings from the report at Amazon Business Reshape on October 27, 2026 in Nashville, TN.
